“Michael has done an excellent job re-thatching the back of our property which was awkward to get to. We were away when the work was carried out, but he kept us updated regularly, and quickly dealt with problems which occurred. We would recommend them unreservedly”.

“When my wife and I were considering replacing the thatch roof and the front door canopy of our Grade Two listed cottage in Swalcliffe we agreed that there were a number of fundamental points we would require of the Thatcher. We considered attitude, approach, professional standing, previous completed work and competitive pricing.. Michael Powell and his company Olde England Roofs met all of the criterions mentioned above. We were both extremely delighted with the finished outcome. Michael’s attention to detail and the high standard of the completed work has drawn much acclaim from fellow Villagers. Michael may you continue on to be successful. You deserve to.”

“From start to finish Mike and his colleagues have been an absolute pleasure to have around. He has been polite, punctual, and incredibly hard-working. He has also been flexible and has adapted to our requirements. Most importantly, the quality of his workmanship is nothing short of outstanding. He clearly loves his craft, and excels at it. Nothing is too much trouble, and he always seeks to do his absolute best to get the perfect results. My wife and I couldn’t be more delighted with our newly thatched roof, and we wouldn’t hesitate to use Mike again or to recommended him to others. Thanks again for doing such a great job. See you soon”.

“I started Olde England Roofs in 1992 having been laid off with a weekends notice after nearly eight years of faithful service to a former employer. Difficult times in a recession were to blame, and not the ideal way to start a new business. But needs must, and I had to fight for a market share if I was to survive. I managed to establish a foothold in those early years, quickly gaining a reputation for quality thatching and winning several awards along the way. My ethos was always quality rather than rapid unsustainable expansion, but working alone has some drawbacks, and with an expanding order book the time came to advertise for an apprentice. So it was that in 2001, Michael, a fresh faced twenty-one year old became my first apprentice. Quickly showing the kind of aptitude that was a perfect fit for Olde England Roofs he went on to be a solid and reliable employee quickly building the skills required to become a Master Thatcher in his own right. As my own personal circumstances then changed, I had no hesitation in handing over the reins to Michael. Not just a business, but an ethos, in safe hands for whatever challenges the future holds”.

“Michael is a superb craftsman who cares passionately about the craft, his honesty, quality of work and attention to detail shines through. My criteria was for a great quality lasting job, not the quickest! and that’s what he delivered”.
